Almost none of these are specific to PerlMonks.

Also, while it's common to call them "acronyms", the correct term is "initialisms". Acronyms are a subset of those initialisms which form pronouncable words, such as ANSI, ASCII, DOS or GUI.

Makeshifts last the longest.

    While you are technically correct, I move this out of the nitpickery realm and into the Anal Retentive realm.
