coldfingertips, first off, Abigail-II did give you some good information. He spent time reading your question and addressing the issues. Aside from the phrase "not going to waste time", which is his perogative, I don't see your complaint.
You apparently didn't actually read his response because you later ask again why "4" => "four" didn't get deleted. He answered that in his first paragraph. I took the opportunity (or wasted my time) to look at what you have contributed to PM, all 30 of your writeups to date. I found that you have not contributed anything to the monastery except questions and responses to other's responses to your questions. While that in and of itself is fine, I think it is very hypocritical of you to turn around and rant at someone who spent time to answer your question just because he also stated that he didn't think you were going about the whole problem correctly and even suggested a better way of doing it.
Finally, Abigail-II, I thought/hoped that you would take the high-road here and not respond, certainly not as you did. We all have bad days, dealing with folks who are learning and asking questions is bound to sometimes agravate them and occasionally bruise an ego or three. I honestly expected a saint of your experience would just brush this one off.
Imagine, a lowly novice like me trying to teach calm and patience to a saint. eek! | [reply] |

I don't agree with Abigail-II's tone, but I have to say, if you had mentioned the tied-hash part in your original post, you may have been better off. Without that information people jump to conclusions.
That all said, you may want to look into using some kind of tied-array instead of a tied-hash, since clearly your data is more akin to an array. I can't recommend any one in particular (especially without knowing the details of how/what you are tie-ing to), but I am sure that you can find something on CPAN and if not can find enough inspiration to roll your own (which you can then upload to CPAN so we can all use it too).

If waisting your time means to read the actual question, then what exactly was the point of posting on this?
Did my eyes deceive me or did you not originally ask "Where did I go wrong?".
Did my eyes deceive me again or did abigail not answer that very succinctly?
Let me take this opportunity to encourage you not to bother posting in SOPW to discuss the point of posting.
Lets just stick to perl.
