Anonymous Monk has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

I have a perl question, but would like to create an account first. I created a user name "monad" with email "????@lums.edu.pk".I was told an email with my password would be forthcoming. I have waited more than an hour and not recieved one yet. I thought of asking on chatterbox, but I can't login. What am I doing wrong?

I then tried to use the password reminder, and it replied that "Your password and username should be on the way." But still no email. I gave a different email address, and still no luck.

Sorry if this is not the right place for asking this, but I don't know what else a non-user can do. I am waiting online.

    I don't know much about the internals of PM, but it seems like your MX host is not accepting mail (at least not from my machine).

    $ host -t mx lums.edu.pk lums.edu.pk MX 50 abaseen.lums.edu.pk $ host abaseen.lums.edu.pk abaseen.lums.edu.pk A 172.28.1.2 abaseen.lums.edu.pk A 203.128.0.2 $ telnet 203.128.0.2 smtp Trying 203.128.0.2... Connected to 203.128.0.2. Escape character is '^]'. Connection closed by foreign host.

    The other host (172.28.1.2) seems to time out on me.

    As the esteemed Monk jdtoronto said, "this is the place to ask your question". Please don't feel obligated to wait for the emails to get around to it, go ahead and as as an "anonymous monk". The Monastery does not have a policy that requires a name to go with a question (at least that I have seen in the last couple of years). So ask away, and lets get started trying to help.

    Welcome to the Monastery. Ask the Questions that you have; answer the Questions that you can; Enjoy the ambiance. (We are only a slightly weird mob here.)

      'slighty weird' ? I take offense to that!! I, for one, am completely weird.

    It might be a server problem on either end. Patience, grasshopper.

    I suggest you ask questions as "AnonymousMonk" for now. AnonymousMonk does ask a lot of questions, but I find I generally like him as a poster.

    Well, I am not sure where is the right place to ask about the password thing.

    BUT here is the right place to ask your question, even as an anonymous monk we will be happy to try and help!

    Maybe I'm way off base here, but isn't it prudent to first ask if

    ????@lums.edu.pk

    Is a valid address (and one that the Anonymous Monk who posted receives mail from)?

    Stranger things have happened .....
