Surfing through some links I found an old talk (from 2000) of Larry Wall, where we can see why he's one of the greatest mind in the world of free softwares and programming languages.

You can see the talk (Real Audio) at:

For some people this can be old thing, but I found it very interesting, specially in this days, where business and domination is growing and growing, and specially in the philosophical way. Well, you need to listen this by your self, since I think that every one that uses Perl should listen that, specially who thinks that are the owner of something.

Some good frases of Larry Wall in the talk:

  • ...Most of the servers out there that are serving Web Pages, great number of them are Unix, Linux, boxes, and that's because they keep running.
  • ...When you are in a position of leading a volunteer organization you really do, have to, lead by benevolence, by example...
  • ...I fill computer programmer not as something it has to do as computers, it has to do as humans. It's like, ok, I will going to make this easy to the computers or for ther person envolved?
  • ...if we want to keep improving we have to have diversity, and we have to have the ways to select the good ideas, and encoraging new ideas to come alone all the time...
  • ...To not try to discourage people from trying variances. We do not want to stabelish one church, we want to stabelish many denominations...
  • Graciliano M. P.
"Creativity is the expression of the liberty".

I just busted out laughing when Paula starts her "Oh Larry, you are the "wizard behind the curtain" segment, drooling like a highschool sophmore. I wonder if Larry scored with her? ha ha.

There's more links like this here at PM :)

Hmm and I had posted a notice on that interview back in 2000. But it's always good to see Larry light someone new up. Truth told I came to Perl because of learning about Larry, not the other way around.

Hmm... Don't you people think that this kind of "stuff that matters" would be more suited for another popular site? Or is it just me?
