in reply to Damian Conway talk on Perl 6, Melbourne Feb 17

I want to thank Damian for the Perl 6 talk. That was excellent. :-) Too bad I attended the seminar an hour late because of production issues at work. But luckily I didn't miss too much I think. :-)

Damian's presentation was very clear and concise, I enjoyed listening to him very much.

After seen what Perl 6 can do, my overall attitude about Perl 6 has changed a bit. I have turned from a non-believer of Perl 6 to someone who's eager to get his hands on it.

That I did. I downloaded parrot (with incomplete Perl 6 language parser) after getting back to work, and started to play with it a bit. I think it's not a bad idea afterall, especially if I could use the JIT of parrot to compile Perl 6 into native machine code (I am doing research on this at the moment), or just write a stub that has parrot attached with compiled pbc's (Parrot Byte Codes). I always wanted a true Perl compiler, and Perl 6 + Parrot seems to give the answer.

Yeah, that was me. I have a feeling that I knew you back in Melbourne Uni? :-)

        > Yeah, that was me. Someone who arrives one hour late, seats on the first row and has his mobile phone going off a bit later is easy to spot ;-) > I have a feeling that I knew you back in Melbourne Uni? :-) Don't think so... I didn't study there, at least not for my undergrad. I'm doing my PhD there now and I did a bit of tutoring there last year but that's all. Zorglub
