As far as I can tell I have all necessary prerequisites installed...

What are they?

gobject-2.0 is one of them, as is glib-2.0, and they appear to be missing

Any advice on how to attack this?

install gobject/glib/pkg-config

Maybe  apt-get install perl-gnome2, something like that
