Merry Day fine monks!

I am trying to read CPU stats from windows machines using Win32::OLE to get at the nasty bits. The recommendation for this task is not to keep creating a wmi object for each look, but to create a refresher and make a refreshable object to peek at the stats: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-gb/library/windows/desktop/aa393026(v=vs.85).aspx . My test code followeth...

use strict; use warnings; use Data::Dumper; use Win32::OLE; my $refresher = Win32::OLE->CreateObject("WbemScripting.SWbemRefresher +") or die "Failed to Create refresher object ". Win32::OLE->LastError +() ."\n"; my $wmi = Win32::OLE->GetObject("winmgmts://./root/cimv2") or die "Failed to get object ". Win32::OLE->LastError() ."\n"; # not sure we need this but I tried $wmi->Security_->Privileges->AddAsString( 'SeDebugPrivilege', 1 ); my $refreshable = $refresher->AddEnum($wmi,"Win32_PerfFormattedData_PerfProc_Process" +) or die "Could not get refreshable item ". Win32::OLE->LastError() +."\n"; $refresher->Refresh();

And giveth an error:

C:\Documents and Settings\1161732\Perltest>scratch.pl Could not get refreshable item OLE exception from "SWbemRefresher": Access denied Win32::OLE(0.1709) error 0x80041003 in METHOD/PROPERTYGET "AddEnum" C:\Documents and Settings\1161732\Perltest>

I testing on XP in a dosbox that is run as administrator.

Any ideas other than walking the cursed path that is VB? A Google found others with the same error and no resolution other that that it may be a 64/32 bit issue. This machine is 32bit all the way so that can not be the one.

Cheers,
R.
