Here's the problem. Under perldelta (5.18.0) - Updated Modules and Pragmata, the entry for Scalar::Util includes information on functions from List::Util (i.e. sum, first and reduce).

List::Util & Scalar::Util are both actually distributed as a single package called Scalar-List-Utils.
