it worked for me doing this: 
use WWW::Mechanize;

my $mech = WWW::Mechanize->new();
$mech->get ('http://google.com');
my $content = $mech->content;
print $content;

[download]
I don't think it is necessary to put the 'or die "Can't create mech" part? Also,I have a brief tutorial that I have requested for comment using WWW::Mechanize that is in the meditations section
