Hello, monks.I was reading the IO::Select doc on perldoc.com , but I still can't grasp what this code is actually doing or its significance. 
$rin = $win = $ein = '';
vec($rin,fileno(STDIN),1) = 1;
$ein = $rin | $win;

($nfound,$timeleft) =
      select($rout=$rin, $wout=$win, $eout=$ein, $timeout);
