I'd like to improve it to where if any one of the files is missing it prints the missing file.

Well, a "filemask" is not a filename, anyway 

for my $mask ( @masks ){
   my @files = ... $mask
  if( @files ){
   ...
  }else {
   ... $mask
  }
}
