Could the threads / posts remain visible to humans, but have unapproved posts (or just those less than a day old say) use an alternate URL path that can be filtered from the search engines with a robots.txt?
Humans need to see the posts fast regardless of false negatives, but search engines can wait a day or two for the consideration process to clean things up.
