While a reply requiring another perl version than expected won't help the author of the question, it can still be benficial:
When posting a question to a public site like perlmonks, the answer is not only intended for the author, but also for the many lurking monks reading it. If they encounter a similar problem, they might be thankful that they get the advice that a feature in another perl-version might help them. They might not have the same version-constraints as the original author.
