I'm not sure I understand what your set up is and what this "word" desktop app is, it'd help if you could explain some more. Also, do you have a specific question? You've already been given several answers on how to approach the general problem above. As a next step it'd probably be best to write some code, and if you have problems with it post your code with specific questions here.
