Weirdly enough, this is not documented in ExtUtils::MakeMaker, but conveniently enough, EUMM uses the feature in its Makefile.PL:

    META_MERGE => {
        no_index => {
            package   => [ 'DynaLoader', 'in' ],    # "in" is a PAUSE 
+misparse.
            directory => [ 'bundled', 'my' ],
        },
        ...
