Hello and welcome to the wonderful Perl's world.

If you have not so much programming background, like me, i can suggest you to start with Perl Cookbook: is something aged but still useful. You can see many answers to your question there and all in a plain Perl way (then, take in count we are in 2014, so have at your hand Modern Perl book for free).

Consider that here at perlmonks many question are already answered: you have Super Search and you get (for the directory recursion example) many results.

To learn and resolve the problem you described i suggest you to analyze every minimal step needed to accomplish the task (without Perl) and then translate it in a Perl program.

You'll come up with longer code then needed but, as you'll continue trying, your Perl will became more idiomatic and powerful.

I'm sure many monks here around can do what you ask in few lines or a in a oneliner: better you write a plain Perl program and ask for adivice if you have some problem: avoid solution you do not fully understand.
