Has the VM layer startup time been improved?

You might be interested in Jonathan Worthington's talk Perl 6 performance update here: https://youtu.be/S5iVBlk7pdg?t=16773. They're doing some really impressive work on optimizations, although sadly not on startup time - yet :-)
