If I recall correctly from when I played "The Colossal Cave" on a paper terminal, there was one room where the entrance was too small to take your torch inside. The "solution" was to drop the torch while it was on and then enter the room. It would say something like "you are inside a small cavern with an aerie green light showing through the entrance. There is an emerald laying on the floor". Then take the emerald, leave the room and pick up your torch. It was somewhere in the early 1980's, and my memory has faded on this. Plugh!
