Do a regex match between my list of names, and my hash keys.

This is only necessary if you need regex features, like partial matches - if that's necessary, see Building Regex Alternations Dynamically for one solution. If you want to match exact strings, then simply looking up the first column in a hash built from the list of names should be best, as Marshall showed.
