Thnaks hippo and marto.   I realized I had a window of opoortunity to look at Strawberry Perl.  So I uninstalled ActivePerl and installed Starwberry Perl.   I now have GD module installed.   

I was worried that many of the modules I had previously installed may not re-install.   Well low and behold probably half of the modules I had to install in ActivePerl are in the initial install with Strawberry. 

So I now have Strawbery Perl up and running and everything seems to be working with my existing perl scripts.
