You can see problems just by looking at the test matrix

IIRC (it's been a long time), installing it from CPAN never really worked well (or at all?); I remember the Perl module would get built when one complied ImageMagick from source. But even then, finnicky business I think. In any case, Imager is a nice alternative ("Nicholas Clark - How Geizhals took out ImageMagick before ImageMagick took *us* out"), and I haven't tried GraphicsMagick.
