It seems you completely ignored Re: printing to stdout from a soft ln -s doesn't show up by mrkrinkle:
Ok guys I figured it out. I my ln -s was linking to the wrong .pl file. *forehead-smack*.
I don't see any connection between running the wrong script and buffering. perlfaq5 does not even mention running the wrong script.
