Note that on Windows it calls the method from File::HomeDir::Windows: https://metacpan.org/source/REHSACK/File-HomeDir-1.006/lib%2FFile%2FHomeDir%2FWindows.pm#L105. This would be something to look into.

Have you modified its $IMPLEMENTED_BY variable to change the methods called?
