The Perl language is one of the oldest around, and it evolved into what it is today. Hundreds of millions of lines of production software worth billions of dollars has been written in it. The most important thing is to keep those systems running ... not to make gratuitous changes to the language core. Did we learn nothing from the debacle known briefly as "Perl 6?"
