For what it's worth - I'm happy to do almost all of the necessary code, if anyone can reliably and definitively and without-risks-or-memory-leaks-or-thread-crashes tell me how to convert 0xGIBBERISH into \uSENSE (i.e. tell me the guaranteed correct way to handle non-ascii data).
