If one has an old version of Perl installed, how dangerous is it to upgrade core modules? By dangerous I mean the upgraded module does not work. I assume pure perl would be less dangerous, unless it uses new features. Is it more likely, or perhaps certain, that modules with XS would fail to function? Is it a bad idea to upgrade core modules without also upgrading Perl?
