His weak joke was a poor way to save face and pretend the most amazing financial blunder in years never happened. He waited until the absolute last day to avoid a billion dollar penalty after six months of trying to back out of his unsolicited offer through the courts while publicly pretending it was exactly what he wanted. Six full months where nobody (including him and twitter's board and shareholders) thought he'd be dumb enough to drastically overpay for twitter and he did it. "Let that sink in."

One day, he'll mature beyond 13 years old and stop thinking 420 is funny. $420.69/share "funding secured" to take Tesla private and $54.20/share to take Twitter private. Both were jokes. Both were way more than either company was worth when he made the joke. Both landed him in court.
