coupla years ago i changed to kate aka kate editor. https://kate-editor.org/ took a bit to get it all tweaked like i wanted, but i LOVE it. really a KDE project, but it works well on osx. there is also a windows version and of course linux. the pdf doc was very useful. https://docs.kde.org/stable5/en/kate/kate/kate.pdf
