Why not simply use -1?

$ perl -MDP -we'DHexDump pack ("N", -1)'
0000  ff ff ff ff                                       ....
$ perl -MDP -we'DHexDump pack ("Q", -1)'
0000  ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff                           ........
