Did / Can you write a patch for the module? Did you file a bug at RT: https://rt.cpan.org/Public/Dist/Display.html?Name=libnet?

Seems the bug queue is stalled for Net::FTP, but the latest release of the bundle (http://search.cpan.org/~shay/libnet-3.06/) was January 2015. Suppose it couldn't hurt.
