I thought about trying to use the 80-bit precision that available in the x87 FPU, but to get access to it I'd have to drop into assembler; and with MSVCx64, that means using MASM64 as the 64-bit compiler doesn't support inline asm.
But Masm64 (the version I have) is borked. It doesn't support a crap load of stuff you want it to; it's macro facilities have a habit of producing unassemblable code; and there is no support available at all. There are only about 10 pages of information about writing Masm64 code on the entire 'net; and half of those are just stolen copies of the other half.
Pretty much a dead end.
