I can't get the \r to go away.
The substitution operator will remove all \r from a string:

use strict;

my $result = "/Volumes/public_files/music/ABC - The Lexicon of Love (1
+982) {1996 Remaster} [V0]what.cd/16 Look Of Love (Live).mp3\r";
$result =~ s/\r//g;
print ">>>$result<<<\n";

__END__

>>>/Volumes/public_files/music/ABC - The Lexicon of Love (1982) {1996
