But I have never found it particularly helpful when a forum is just “a code-writing service.”   Maybe that is merely a matter of opinion, but either you hand someone a fish or teach him how to fish.   Either way, it seems unnecessarily harsh to me to penalize someone when their response and chosen means of response is not as you would choose to do it.

Maybe it’s just me; just the fact that, no matter what the response to any thread might be, I never downvote anything.   Upvote, yes, frequently.   Downvote, [almost] never.
