I declared the variable at the top of my code so it should be global: my $public_key_type; I have other blocks that are configured the same way that work without issue in the first loop. I also have "use strict"; and "use warnings"; The below block of code works with all the loops my code does I have.
===================================================== if ( $line =~ /^Serial number:/ ) { $serial_number = scalar <DATA> for 1; $serial_number =~ s/^\s+//; $serial_number =~ s/\s+$//; $serial_number =~ s/\R//g; $serial_number = "'$serial_number'"; } =====================================================
The below block of does not work on the firts loop of the code.
====================================================== if ( $line =~ /^Public Key Type:/ ) { $public_key_type = scalar <DATA> for 1; $public_key_type =~ s/^\s+//; $public_key_type =~ s/\s+$//; $public_key_type =~ s/\R//g; print "$public_key_type\n"; } ======================================================
