I agree, but we do also c&p printed output including tabs.
But having the textarea showing another behavior (8 char tab stops) compared to the rendered code (4 chars per \t) is unfortunate.
At least we could try to adjust the textarea, see http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3379091/is-it-possible-to-change-width-of-tab-symbol-in-textarea
(which wouldn't fix tab vs tabstop incompatibility, I'm afraid. )
