I have Ubuntu 64-bit and it just installed OK. Note that there are different flags being passed to the compiler, and that the output of the command appears to be 'true': 

cc main.o  -s -Wl,-E  -fstack-protector -L/usr/local/lib  -L/home/vagr
+ant/perl5/perlbrew/perls/perl-5.16.3/lib/5.16.3/x86_64-linux/CORE -lp

true

Maybe that's some help.
