Update:

Is any one using Perl to access a Derby database?

I need to answer question like:

overview of the DBMS itself, what the hierarchy of objects in the DBMS are, what running processes can you find to discover it, how do you find the name of the instances, how do you get a list of databases, how do you find the version number

I have a lot of information about installation, sql usage, etc. but have only been able to instructions to get a list of databases.
