Perl is like a submarine.

Heh. More than once I've built a submarine with perl - often alongside the big vessel the Java Witnesses built on their shiny dockyard. And as their ship got stuck with their launching slide or was launched and sank, the submarine emerged as a drop-in replacement. I've never been praised much for the feat, mostly frowned at - but at least we had something to work with.
