Please consider the following: Basic debugging checklist. Especially tip #4 would be beneficial... Try adding Data::Dumper to your code to see what is actually happenning behing the smoke screen.

Edit: this should probably be reaped, as the same advice is given in previous response by hippo (Re^3: help with user selected hash operations?). Should be more careful next time.
