That was a different situation. I was trying to get it installed on my Mac, not on a Debian machine with a local version of Perl. If I recall, what I ended up doing is installing all of mysql on the machine to get it working. The advice I was given on that node, though I'm thankful for it, was beyond my comprehension and I couldn't figure it out.
Any how many times do I have to say it? It doesn't do any good to read documentation you can't understand or follow.
I think, very often, the underlying sentiment of RTFM is YADA (you're a dumb ass). Fine. I'm a dumb ass, if that makes you feel better about yourself.
