The compiler above is instructed to look for header files (including EXTERN.h) at /System/Library/Perl/5.18/darwin-thread-multi-2level/CORE (the -I directive) AND the directory the compiler is currently in (I guess some place where cpan unpacks the module). Even if that file is in your current directory it will not be found by the compiler.

I am just explaining the error to you from the point of view of the compiler. But before you go copying EXTERN.h and re-trying (which I do not recommend), it looks to me that something is broken there and you should re-trace your steps, hopefully you can fix it.

I would take the advice from anon about not messing with system perl pretty seriously...
