Did you try setting TERM=dumb, as was suggested in the reply Re: Problem Running Perl Debugger?

(BTW: you can edit your post (How do I change/delete my post?) to use What shortcuts can I use for linking to other information? (like [id://1059438] and [id://840731] to link to specific nodes), so the links are valid/clickable)
