blakem is correct. A bit more info:

• http://search.cpan.org/doc/TIMB/DBD-Oracle-1.12/Oracle.pm#Handling_LOBs
• LongReadLen sets the longest # of bytes that the DBD will read from Oracle
• LongTruncOK, if set, allows a string longer than LongReadLen to be truncated. So you get the first bit of it, rather than none of it
• This is stricly an Oracle thing. Users of other databases can ignore.

This is from memory (haven't got the right book to hand) but should be roughly right. ;)
