Having issues with Debian of a similar ilk a while back, the library code you require is probably not where it is expected,

Installing some modules will not require links to library code, SSL does.

A place to get a more focussed view on this topic is Perl Porters or checkout here to seee if anyone from Sun has sorted this out.
