I'd like to be able to chop the beginning of a file off without actually reading it.
I could read the file, discarding the first n lines, and write the remainder back out
to the same file (or a new file and rename it). But that seems really lame to me - I
want better performance!
Essentially, I want to change the directory entry to point to a new starting point for
the file, and then release the area no longer in use to the pool of unallocated disk space.
I only need this on linux, but I'd prefer portable code since I am OS-agnostic.
Any help would be greatly appreciated... thanks for your time!
