IMNSHO, using the work "link" to indicate a hyperlink is a redundancy that is a visual equivalency to the sound of nails on a blackboard.
NAH DUHH! That's why it's underlined, dude!
When I first joined I couldn't figure out what the heck the scratchpad was. I click on a link and it takes me to an empty page. :-P Whahhh??? :-P However, there is something to be said for building in obscurity in a place such as this, much like the library in Umberto Eco's Name of the Rose. The former text gave things an aire of mystery that is lacking entirely lacking in the current "link".
If the goal is usability, than things other then the value of the hyperlink need to be addressed. For instance, clicking on the link for the owner of the scratchpad should take them to a place to edit it, as opposed to the current method in which one stumbles upon it whilst editing ones User Information.
