Could you try out http://London.pm.org/~robin/Algorithm-FastPermute-0.05.tar.gz? I've stolen Graham's cxinc hack, and also rolled in a couple of other portability fixes that I had lying around.

If it solves your problem, I'll upload it to CPAN later today.
