Hi,
I've been working with Perl trying to work with mySQL databases. So far it's going well but I am looking for a little help.
At present I am using this code:

sub register { $username = $query->param('username'); $email = $query->param('email'); $name = $query->param('name'); $url = $query->param('url'); my $dbname = 'la'; my $dbhost = 'localhost'; my $dsn = "DBI:mysql:database=$dbname;host=$dbhost"; my $dbh=DBI->connect($dsn,"la","password"); if (!defined($dbh)) { print DBI->errmsg; print "-" x 25; exit; } my $time = strftime("%Y-%m-%d %I:%M:%S", localtime); $query = qq(insert into members (username, password, email, name, ur +l, date) Values ('$username', '$password', '$email', '$name', '$url', + '$time')); $sth = $dbh->prepare($query); $sth->execute; $dbh->disconnect; print "Done"; exit; }
I am using this to write some data to a database called members. What I want to do though is check if $username exist in the db already and if it does, display an error message. If it doesn't, user is added.

Any help or advice would be very useful!
- Neil
