I do not override
< readmore > tags myself, but since quite a few on
Nodes to Consider are often there just because they need that tag - or for that matter, since some nodes do need one when viewing them in other sections, I sometimes wish for an "intelligent"
< readmore > option. Something that will add such a break on it's own.
I am thinking something like Text::Wrap or any good idea popping up in the recent node regexp word break help. It would break on "smart" places, like right before/after <code>, <p>, double <br />, and such places, after a given (user-configurable) number of characters. Sadly, HTML, true type fonts and the different resolutions/browsers people use does make linecount non-feasible, so it'd have to be characters.
I'm not sure how useful this is, I just came to think about that I've wished for it at one time or the other earlier. And instead of making my own node for something so petty, I am spamming yours. Sorry. :)
As for your idea, well if it did get implemented, I probably could think to override < readmore > again, which I did in the beginning of my days at this site. Every little thing that makes the site better, I'm for.
You have moved into a dark place.
It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue.
