Your best bet is probably to use the super search, and limit your results to all categories except 'notes'. I'd also like to see a shortcut for the option, however.

(I imagine the author of the root node knows this because of the reference to 'main search', but I think it's worth mentioning for people who might stumble across the node in the future. At the time of this writing, super search is a bit broken).
